PIFA PRESENTS:

Symposium 2022 November 17th & 18th

In mid to late November each year, the members of the Profession of Independent Financial Advisers, the financial advice community, and other stakeholders come together from all over the country to PIFA’s Symposium for the opportunity to rub shoulders, network and take home unique and thought-leading content delivered by passionate and engaging speakers.

This year, at PIFA’s 2022 national event, ‘Reuniting Advisers’, we celebrate the end of two years of ‘global conference lockdown’ at the landmark Ovolo Nishi hotel, in Canberra’s New Acton precinct.

Financial Advisers, their support teams, and industry stakeholders are all invited to join us at this year’s event to enjoy the strong sense of community and comradeship we enjoy as supporters of the concept of the
Gold Standard of IndependenceTM.

Hear from the following passionate experts...

Chris Collings - Unpacking the Amygdala Hijack

We all have pre-determined, emotional responses to pressure. It’s the survival mechanism in us. But why is it that sometimes we react in ways that are ‘out of measure’? This is called an amygdala hijack. Using his skills as a leadership coach, Chris will demonstrate the four distinct ways people respond to pressure so that we can deal with ‘perceived threats’ better, communicate in a more productive way and improve our relationships with ourselves, our team, and our clients.

Dr. John Molineux – Adviser Mental Health & Wellbeing: The Future of the ‘Thriving’ Adviser

In 2021, a first-of-its kind study of financial adviser mental health and wellbeing was conducted and the results confirmed the troubling state of the industry: 73% of advisers are experiencing high levels of burnout from work. The results also showed that 33% are seeking medical care to manage the stress of their role, 61% have poor sleep, 67% experience some level of depression and 17% of advisers said they were depressed most or all of the time. Yet, amongst these advisers, a group emerged whose businesses were in fact growing. In his address, Dr. John Molineux will share key insights from the study, what inparticular was triggering these worrying statistics, and importantly what was learned about the habits & behaviours of the ‘thriving’ advisers who seemed to hold the key to having sustained careers as financial advisers.

John Rappell – You don’t apply to run a Professional Scheme; you simply run it

From the architect who designed, built, and delivered the system to operate a professional scheme, no one else is better placed to illustrate just how an association and its members can work symbiotically to run a Professional Scheme.  John will share the benefits small business owners receive by belonging to a Professional Scheme and how the Association can work with its members to help its members for the benefit of the adviser, their business, and their clients.
